Chief of Staff to meet MASLOC over abandoned 350 vehicles

The Chief of Staff is expected to meet the management of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) over the distribution of vehicles meant for the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).

The 350 vehicles were purchased by the John Mahama administration in 2016 to be distributed to members of the transport union on a hire purchase for commercial purposes.

But the One Hundred (100) 33-seater buses and 250 saloon cars, have been abandoned.

The GPRTU which was expected to buy the vehicles decried the high prices. The Union thought the figures quoted were too exorbitant, hence its inability to purchase them.

Loan Recovery Officer at MASLOC, Dominic Ayim told Joy News in an interview that the meeting will seek to resolve the issues with the distribution.

He also said already, negotiations are ongoing with the suppliers to talk them into reducing the prices of the vehicles for the GPRTU and any other interested party.

Mr Ayim said it was heartbreaking to “see the vehicles rot in here.”

Meanwhile, MASLOC has mounted an intensive search to retrieve more than 150 vehicles whose owners are indebted to the Centre.

The affected owners are said to have secured the loans from MASLOC to purchase the vehicles but have defaulted in repaying the loans, a situation which has contributed to the financial difficulties confronting the Centre.

Beneficiaries of MASLOC credit facilities are indebted to the Centre beyond GH¢100 million, covering the period from 2009 to 2017.
