Marwako supervisor jailed for 9 months

A district court handed a nine months imprisonment sentence to the Lebanese supervisor Marwako Jihad Chaaban who forcefully dipped the face of an employee into pepper.

The presiding judge Victoria Efua Ghansah delivering her judgment said she was fully convinced by the the prosecution that the accused indeed committed the offence.

She further rejected the terms of settlement by the two parties presented by the defence stating the matter before her was criminal and not a civil one of which the settlement represented.

Justice Ghansah also cautioned employers to ensure they threat their workers well and stop the harsh treatment meted out to them.

Jihad Chaaban, was reported in February to have allegedly grabbed the neck of Evelyn Boakye and dipped her face into a jar of blended pepper.

 

According to the prosecution, he [Jihad Chaaban] accused her of fidgeting with the blender and working slowly.

Chaaban was charged with offensive conduct by calling the victim a prostitute and intentionally and unlawfully causing harm and assault. He however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
