Turn away from contraception misconception – Dr. Gloria Quansah
The Ghana Health Service is urging the public to turn away from the misconception, superstition and religious beliefs attached to the use of contraception in the country.
According to the Deputy Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Gloria Quansah there should be a persistent collaborative effort by all stakeholders in the health sector to inculcate the importance of the use of contraceptive among Ghanaians especially the sexual active to prevent the spread of Sexual Transmitted Infections and unwanted pregnancies.
Dr. Quansah said the use of modern contraceptive methods among married women is 22% which need to be improved.

Dr. Gloria Quansah said this during the 2017 family planning week celebration and world contraception day in Accra under the theme: Family Planning, know your body, know your partner, know your option.
“Coincidentally, today the 26th of September also marks worlds contraceptive day, a day celebrated globally to raise awareness about contraception and improve education regarding reproduction and sexual health. There’s a compelling evidence that practicing family planning yield many socioeconomic benefit by managing and slowing population growth” she added
“Since women in the country stands a better chance to change their status and well-being through improved access through productive health service including family planning, we should persist in our efforts to dispel all misconceptions to make family planning desirable to all including men” she added
