20% Free SHS fund reflected in some schools account – Alexander Buadi

The Volta Regional Director of Education, Alexander Buadi says some schools in the volta region have received the 20 per cent fund promised by the government for the free senior high school program. Mr. Buadi said despite some few challenges faced on Monday whiles admitting the students, many children have expressed how happy they are as beneficiaries of the program. Speaking to raylizaonline.com, Mr. Buadi says, they will hold stakeholders meeting to address some early challenges the program may encounter.

“In the first place, some schools we’ve cross checked from have their monies (20% Free SHS program fund) lodged in their respective account as at Monday evening. I am very certain about Tree town SHS, Akatsi secondary technical school and few others we did our checks on. However, you know that with every program there is supposed to be some hitches. Some parents visited some schools and they were not enthused about the location of the schools” he added.

He says they are currently engaging in stakeholders meeting in order to address how the day students can duly benefit from the “One meal Per Day”, Free Senior High School program Inclusive.

“The municipal and district assemblies are also to be of assistance in this. So we are engaging schools that are purely day schools. We are engaging the district chief executives to see how they can be of help in getting facilities for the hot meal per day. Because of the time tabling, we also have to know which meal should be the one meal per day. Is it the breakfast or the lunch? Should the students stay on empty stomach at morning, eat lunch and go home? So this one is going to be a stakeholder negotiation to find a better solution and by Thursday, most of the districts will finish their work well” he added.
